This week I sit down with one of my oldest friends, Dean Bruhn. Dean Is an adventure motorcyclist and founder of an organization called, Church of Rad. Dean and I have planed many trips together but none have ever come to pass. However Dean has been on many moto trips himself. So Jessica and I are in the middle of planning a trip to China in May and we needed to get our visas but after finding out the closest consulate was in San Fran we decided to use a 3rd party. After a Google search we found a company with an office in Seattle, We made a day trip out of going and having them do our visas for us. Over tourism is what happens when a place becomes too popular and tourism becomes unsustainable. In this episode I talk about my experiences with overtourism, some ways to combat it and posting responsibly on social media while you travel.

Episode 28 - Listener Questions Vol. 1

Episode 25 - What do you pack?

So first I would like to start off by saying this podcast is what I do sometimes and it’s not something you have to live by. Below you will find a list of the things I talk about that I carry with me. It will be broken up in sections much like in the podcast.

This is my home - The North Face Base Camp Duffle Size Small, Plain Black T-Shirts , Quick Dry Underwear, Socks - I usually try and wear socks with some flare. , Pants - I tend to lean towards plain old fashion levi’s. I rock those cargo shorts like a nerd. Also Swimmers , A Nice Fancy Shirt Some Thermal Undies, Anyone? and they all get stuffed in a Space Saver bag. It gets sweaty when you travel take a bandana or 2. It also get’s cold don’t forget to take a Hat. I keep all of my small things in these Eagle creek bags

Like is mentioned in the podcast toiletries are very personal but a few things you should consider taking is Earplugs and Drowny wrinkle Spray

So as I mentioned I make a emergency travel kit with a Rubbermade cupcake container, Rain Pancho, Emergency Blanket, Needle and thread, Lighters, Bandaids, Medical tape.

My Day Pack is Light weights and packable.

I keep my camera gear in another one of those Eagle Creek Bags. Inside the bag you will find 2 Leica Q Camera Batteries, 1 Leica Battery Charger, 4 (Depending on if i’ve got my computer) 64gb SD cards, A Battery Backup, Headphones (In a pelican 1010), 2 iPhone Chargers, 2 Lighting to 1/8” adaptors.

Sometimes I also carry My Computer and an external Harddrive.

Episode 24 - 2018 year in review.

In this episode I recall some highlight from my big 4 trips I took in 2018. 3 of with were with Jessica Dixon and one with Brian Stowell. IN 2018 I went to 13 different countries and 4 of those were new. Ive been trying to complete the Century travelers list of countries and territories. Needless to say thats going slow.i also keep calling them the century travelers club when its actually the Travelers Century Club. So i Talk about traveling by train from Bangkok to Cambodia. I talk about the nice people at The Local Guesthouse and brew pub in Siem Reap. Theres a quick little stories of visiting one of the driest places on earth, Micro countries (Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City), and our time at the Munduk Molding Plantation. I Love Phants Lodge is an outstanding place to interact with elephants who are being rehabilitated for the wild. I also talk about traveling alone. One thing I don’t discuss this episode that I will link are some of my favorite travel Items.

In this episode I explain a little about how I set aside money and make travel a priority.

Remember to take local transport, stay in hostels, couch surf, or stay in cheap hotels, Eat street food. try and be flexible with your plans and get uncomfortable.
